Gomel

This section collects view postcards of Gomel through 1991. These cards record the appearance of Belarus’s second-largest city in the late Soviet period.
Subjects include the Gomel Regional Russian Drama Theatre, circus, Palace of Pioneers, and Palace of Culture and Sports. Also featured are Gomel State University, the railway station, and Sovetskaya Street.
The collection includes a monument to V.I. Lenin, a memorial to Komsomol soldiers, and a mass grave of soldiers and underground fighters on Truda Square. Industrial sites shown include the Gomselmash agricultural machinery plant and the Giprozhivmash design institute.
