A 1990 Soviet art postcard depicting the monument of partisan glory in the Carpathian resort town of Yaremche.
What is shown on the postcard
The postcard shows a close-up of the monument to the Kovpak partisans. At the center of the composition is a bronze figure of a partisan soldier standing between two tall, split stone blocks that symbolize the Carpathian rocks. The soldier holds a submachine gun raised in his right hand, while his left arm is extended to the side. An inscribed text is visible on the right stone pylon. At the base of the monument, on the granite platform, lie commemorative wreaths and baskets of flowers. Trees and a cloudy sky are visible in the background.
Historical note
The monument is dedicated to the participants of the Carpathian Raid of the Sumy partisan unit commanded by S. A. Kovpak in the summer of 1943. The monument was unveiled in 1967. The authors of the project were the prominent sculptor V. Z. Borodai and architects A. F. Ihnashchenko and S. P. Tutuchenko, the latter of whom was a member of the Kovpak partisan movement.
Present day
The memorial is located in the central part of Yaremche, along the Ivano-Frankivsk — Rakhiv highway (Svobody Street). The monument has survived to this day and remains part of the town’s historical landscape, although the perception of the Soviet legacy in modern Ukraine has undergone significant changes.
