What is shown on the postcard
The postcard shows a stone pylon topped with a sculpted portrait bust of Major General Semyon Vasilyevich Rudnev in military uniform. The front of the monument features an inscription in Russian, noting that the street was named after the commissioner of the partisan detachment.
Memorial wreaths with flowers and ribbons are placed at the base, one of which carries an inscription in Ukrainian “from the workers of the city”. The surrounding area is paved with patterned concrete tiles, with decorative flower pots on the sides and lush trees in the background.
Historical note
Semyon Vasilyevich Rudnev was one of the leaders of the Soviet partisan movement and the commissioner of the partisan unit led by S. A. Kovpak. He died in 1943 during the Carpathian Raid.
The memorial bust was erected during the Soviet era in Yaremche on the street named in his honor to commemorate World War II events in the Carpathian region.
Present day
Within the framework of decommunization and derussification processes in Ukraine, Soviet-era memorial sites dedicated to the partisan movement have undergone changes. Rudnev Street in Yaremche was renamed, and the monument was dismantled.
