What is shown on the postcard

The foreground of the postcard depicts several sailing yachts navigating the waters of the Dnieper River. White sails are visible, some bearing discernible hull numbers and class symbols. Historical note

Zaporizhzhia, situated on the Dnieper River, historically maintained a close connection with the river. Following the construction of the DniproHES and the formation of the vast Zaporizhzhia Reservoir, conditions for the development of water transport and sports, including sailing, significantly improved. In the 1960s, yachting was a popular leisure activity, and numerous recreation centers, sanatoriums, and yacht clubs were built along the Dnieper banks, actively used by the city and regional residents.

Present day

Today, the Dnieper remains Zaporizhzhia’s central waterway, and water sports and recreation continue to be an important part of the city’s life. While some of the old sanatoriums and recreation centers may have changed or been reconstructed, the traditions of sailing continue to develop. Yacht clubs operate, organizing competitions and providing opportunities for yachting, maintaining the spirit of aquatic camaraderie on the river.
