Historical note

The monument to V.I. Lenin was officially unveiled in Zaporizhzhia on November 6, 1964, in Lenin Square (now Maidan Voli). Sculptors M. V. Vronskyi and O. P. Oliinyk, along with architects A. A. Sydorenko and M. M. Zakharov, were responsible for its creation. The monument served as a central element of the square’s architectural ensemble, becoming one of the symbols of Soviet Zaporizhzhia and a popular site for city events and photographs.

Present day

As part of the decommunization laws adopted in Ukraine, the monument to V.I. Lenin in Zaporizhzhia was dismantled on March 17, 2016. The square where it stood is now known as Maidan Voli (Independence Square). The fate of the dismantled elements of the monument remains subject to discussion, with some parts potentially being preserved for exhibition in museums or specialized displays.
