The presented postcard from 1976 depicts the main entrance and the facade of the central building of the Moynaksky Mud Bath – one of the most famous balneological and mud treatment resorts in Evpatoria.

What is shown on the postcard

The postcard captures a wide, tree-lined entrance leading to the Moynaksky Mud Bath complex. On both sides of the alley, there are lush green trees and vibrant flower beds with red and pink blossoms, creating a picturesque landscape. Along the alley, two tall, stylized stelae with red and white elements and inscriptions, presumably welcoming visitors to the resort, are visible.

In the distance, beyond the alley, the main building of the mud bath can be seen. Its facade features the name «МОЙНАКИ» (Moynaki) in large red letters, with «Курортная поликлиника» (Resort Polyclinic) written below. Several tourist buses are parked in front of the building, indicating organized transport for patients. A few people are strolling along the alley, either approaching or leaving the building.

Historical note

The Moynaksky Mud Bath, located on the shores of the healing Lake Moynak in Evpatoria, is one of the oldest and most renowned mud therapy resorts in Europe. Its history dates back to 1887 when the first rudimentary mud treatment facility was established, utilizing the unique therapeutic properties of the Moynak mud.

In 1912, a new, larger building was constructed, and during the Soviet era, the sanatorium significantly expanded and modernized, becoming a leading center for peloid therapy and balneology. The 1976 postcard captures the resort during its flourishing period, when it served thousands of patients from across the Soviet Union.

Present day

Following the collapse of the USSR, the Moynaksky Mud Bath faced significant challenges, including funding issues and changes in the healthcare system. The historic buildings, including the one depicted in the postcard, have largely deteriorated and currently operate only partially as a medical complex.

Despite the continued high therapeutic potential of Lake Moynak, the historical complex of the mud bath itself is in a state of disrepair and requires comprehensive restoration to fully resume its activities.
