Historical note
The Monument to Komsomol Heroes was unveiled in Chisinau in 1959, designed by sculptor L. Dubinovsky and architect F. Naumov to honor the young underground fighters and soldiers of World War II. The Turist Hotel was constructed around the late 1960s and early 1970s to accommodate the growing influx of Soviet and international tourists visiting the capital of the Moldavian SSR.
Present day
The Komsomol monument remains in its original location and is currently listed as a historic monument of national significance in Moldova. Youth Avenue has been renamed Grigore Vieru Avenue.
