A 1985 postcard featuring the Pervomaisky Holiday Home in Yevpatoria.
What is shown on the postcard
The foreground of the postcard displays the multi-story building of the Pervomaisky Holiday Home, characteristic of Soviet sanatorium architecture with numerous balconies. In front of the building, a city tram line is visible, with two tram cars in motion.
The surrounding area is landscaped with green spaces, including trees and shrubs. In the distance to the right, another tall multi-story building is visible, likely part of another resort complex or hotel.
Historical note
The Pervomaisky Holiday Home was one of Yevpatoria’s major sanatorium and resort facilities, widely known as a children’s and family resort on the Black Sea coast. It operated as part of the extensive health and leisure system of the Soviet Union, providing health services and accommodation for workers. The construction of such complexes was actively developed in the post-war period and especially in the 1960s-1980s, when Yevpatoria flourished as an all-Union health resort.
Present day
Currently, the complex formerly known as the Pervomaisky Holiday Home continues to operate under the names “Center Yevpatoria” or “Sanatorium Pervomaisky”. It has retained its primary function as a resort institution, offering health and leisure services, although it has undergone a number of changes and renovations since its creation to adapt to modern requirements.
The tram traffic along Lenin Avenue, as depicted on the postcard, has been preserved and remains an integral part of Yevpatoria’s urban landscape.
