Historical note

The Victory Monument was erected in Minsk in 1954 to commemorate Soviet soldiers and partisans who perished during the Great Patriotic War. The project’s architects were G. V. Zaborsky and V. A. Korol, with sculptors Z. I. Azgur, A. O. Bembel, A. K. Glebov, and S. I. Selikhanov contributing. Initially, the monument stood 38 meters tall, and in 1961, the Eternal Flame was lit at its base.

Present day

Today, the Victory Monument and Victory Square remain one of Minsk’s central memorial complexes and a venue for solemn events dedicated to Victory Day and other commemorative dates. The complex has undergone several reconstructions, preserving its historical appearance and significance as a symbol of remembrance for fallen heroes.
