This 1978 postcard records the monument to Vladimir Antonov-Ovseenko on Heroes Alley in central Chernihiv.
What is shown on the postcard
The image shows a bronze figure of the revolutionary and military leader on a pedestal, framed by a tree-lined alley and footpaths. Residential and public buildings of the late Soviet period are visible in the background.
Historical note
Heroes Alley is a main promenade axis in Chernihiv where Soviet-era memorial compositions were placed. Antonov-Ovseenko (1883–1938) took part in the 1917 revolution and Civil War; the monument reflects the ideological memory of that period.
Present day
Heroes Alley remains a public space in the historic centre. The set of monuments has changed since 1991 as Soviet memorial heritage was reassessed.
