This 1977 Soviet collectible postcard presents a panoramic diptych of two major thoroughfares in Dniprodzerzhynsk (now Kamianske) — Komsomolsky Avenue and Lenin Avenue.

What is shown on the postcard

The left panel depicts Komsomolsky Avenue with nine-story residential apartment blocks, tram tracks, a passenger bus, and pedestrians. A propaganda sign reading “съезду XXV КПСС” (To the 25th Congress of the CPSU) is installed on the roof of the corner building. The right panel shows Lenin Avenue sloping down toward the industrial silhouette of the iron and steel works. The avenue is lined with neat rows of trees, featuring vintage Soviet cars and street lamps.

Historical note

Both avenues were actively developed during the post-war era when the city experienced industrial growth. Lenin Avenue (now Svobody Avenue) historically connected the residential districts with the Dnieper Metallurgical Plant, serving as the central urban axis. Komsomolsky Avenue (now Anoshkina Avenue) was developed as a modern residential district in the 1960s and 1970s with typical multi-story apartment blocks built to house local industrial workers.

Present day

Following the 2016 decommunization laws, the city’s historical name, Kamianske, was restored. Lenin Avenue was renamed Svobody Avenue, while Komsomolsky Avenue was renamed Anoshkina Avenue, in honor of Mikhail Anoshkin, the long-time director of the Pridneprovsky Chemical Plant. The modernist architecture and general street layouts remain, though Soviet political slogans have been removed and local storefronts modernized.
