This 1989 postcard depicts the complex of Sanatorium “Dnipro” (formerly known as Sanatorium named after the XXth Anniversary of Soviet Trade Unions) in Yevpatoria, one of the largest children’s and family resorts on the Black Sea coast of Crimea. The image showcases the architectural appearance and coastal location of the health resort during the late Soviet period.
What is shown on the postcard
The postcard features two sea views, each capturing a part of the “Dnipro” sanatorium complex from the water. The upper section displays a high-rise building, presumably the main building, with numerous horizontal tiers of balconies, against a backdrop of green vegetation and an equipped beach with awnings. The lower section of the postcard shows a longer, lower building with a distinctive wavy pattern of balconies, also situated directly on the beachfront, with holidaymakers and sun loungers.
Historical note
The Sanatorium named after the XXth Anniversary of Soviet Trade Unions was one of the flagship institutions of the Soviet resort system in Yevpatoria, specializing in the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders, peripheral nervous system diseases, and upper respiratory tract conditions. It actively accommodated thousands of workers from across the Soviet Union. Following the dissolution of the USSR, the sanatorium was renamed “Dnipro” and continued its operation as a health resort.
Present day
Currently, Sanatorium “Dnipro” remains operational, functioning as a multidisciplinary medical and health complex. It has preserved part of its historical infrastructure, including the buildings depicted on the postcard, and continues to welcome guests, offering a wide range of medical and rehabilitation services.
