What is shown on the postcard

The front of the postcard displays the facade of the M.I. Glinka Concert Hall, facing a lively street. The building is distinguished by a powerful portico with Corinthian columns, a triangular pediment adorned with a sculptural group, and monumental architecture. To the left on the building, the inscription “RODINA” (Homeland) is visible, and posters on the facade, one indicating its “Cinema-Concert” function. In front of the hall, there is a square with trees, lampposts, and numerous pedestrians. To the right, a sculpture of a seated figure, likely M.I. Glinka, can be discerned.

Historical note

The building that now houses the M.I. Glinka Concert Hall was constructed between 1947 and 1953 as the Palace of Culture for Metallurgists, designed by architect V. V. Akulenko. It was among the first major public buildings erected in Zaporizhzhia after World War II. In 1955, the Palace of Culture was reconstructed and transferred to the Zaporizhzhia Regional Philharmonic, receiving its new name in honor of the Russian composer M.I. Glinka.

Present day

Currently, the M.I. Glinka Concert Hall continues to operate as the Zaporizhzhia Regional Philharmonic. It remains one of Zaporizhzhia’s main cultural centers, regularly hosting symphony and chamber music concerts, as well as other cultural events. The building retains its historical appearance, serving as an architectural landmark in the central part of the city.
