Historical note

Sergei Korolyov, the founder of practical astronautics, was born in this single-story house on January 12, 1907. The memorial house-museum was opened in 1970 as a branch of the Zhytomyr Regional Local History Museum, recreating the early 20th-century atmosphere based on the memoirs of Korolyov’s mother, Maria Nikolaevna Balanina.

Present day

Today, the memorial house is part of the S. P. Korolyov National Space Museum. The building’s historical appearance has been carefully preserved, and it remains open to the public as a key cultural landmark of Zhytomyr.
