The 1985 postcard features the Marine Terminal of Yevpatoria, a vital transport hub and a popular promenade area.
What is shown on the postcard
The foreground of the postcard displays the Yevpatoria Marine Terminal building, constructed in the Soviet Modernist style. Above the entrance, the sign “ПОРТ ЕВПАТОРИЯ МОРТ” (PORT YEVPATORIA MARINE) is visible with volumetric letters. The building’s facade is characterized by large glass windows and massive concrete columns supporting a wide canopy. In front of the terminal, there is a flowerbed with bright red flowers and a staircase leading to the entrance. In the background, to the right, a fragment of a seascape with sailing vessels suggests the active life of the port.
Historical note
The Yevpatoria seaport has a long history, dating back to antiquity. During the Soviet period, especially after the Great Patriotic War, the port actively developed as both a cargo and passenger hub. The Marine Terminal building shown on the postcard was constructed in the 1960s and became one of the city’s symbols. It played a crucial role in organizing Black Sea passenger transport, connecting Yevpatoria with other coastal cities of Crimea and the Caucasus.
Present day
Currently, the Marine Terminal in Yevpatoria continues to operate, although the intensity of passenger traffic has significantly changed compared to the Soviet era. The building retains its main architectural features, but its infrastructure has undergone some modernization. The port still plays an important role for the city, accommodating pleasure boats and handling cargo, and the area around the terminal remains a popular spot for recreation for residents and tourists alike.
