What is shown on the postcard
In the foreground of the postcard, a street section with pedestrians, a green lawn, and classic three-arm lampposts can be seen. In the center, set against thick green trees, stands a tall four-sided obelisk made of red granite, fronted by a bronze statue of a Soviet soldier holding a banner on a pedestal.
Historical note
The Victory Monument in Chernivtsi was officially unveiled on July 14, 1946, on the former Austria Square (now Soborna Square). The monument was designed by sculptor H. L. Petrashevych and architect V. I. Hryhor, symbolizing the liberation of the city from German-Romanian forces in March 1944.
Present day
In November 2022, as part of the decommunization and derussification campaign, the monument was completely dismantled. The bronze soldier sculpture and the granite obelisk elements were removed and transferred to museum storage.
