What is shown on the postcard
The image shows a close-up of the central part of the station’s facade, decorated with a high shaped gable with a decorative circular detail in the center and the inscription “МИРГОРОД”. Under the arch is a large semi-circular window. In front of the window, a bronze sitting figure of N. V. Gogol is installed on a pedestal. On the platform, passers-by (women in summer dresses), a flowerbed in the foreground on the left, a wall clock, and a mailbox to the right of the entrance are visible.
Historical note
The railway station in Myrhorod was opened in 1901 during the construction of the Kyiv-Poltava railway line. The old one-story station building featured a distinctive architectural style with elements of Ukrainian Art Nouveau (modern). The monument to Nikolai Vasilievich Gogol by sculptor A. Kovalev was installed on the platform in 1952 to mark the centenary of the writer’s death.
Present day
The old historic station building depicted on the postcard was completely demolished in 2006. A new modern railway terminal was built in its place. During the reconstruction, the monument to N. V. Gogol was preserved and relocated to the new passenger platform, where it remains today.
