Historical note
The Ostraya Mogila (Sharp Tomb) hill was a crucial defensive position during the Russian Civil War in April 1919, when local workers and citizens defended Luhansk against General Denikin’s forces. The first monument here was erected in the 1930s, and the memorial complex was significantly expanded and reconstructed in the post-war decades.
