What is shown on the postcard
The foreground of the postcard features wet asphalt after rain, clearly reflecting the silhouettes of visitors and the building’s facade. The central composition showcases the pavilion with a massive entrance arch adorned with a sculptural group above the portico colonnade. The building is flanked by two decorative towers topped with symbolic urns. The space in front is filled with visitors dressed in mid-1960s style.
Historical note
The Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy of the Ukrainian SSR was officially opened in Kyiv in 1958. Pavilion No. 10, originally named ‘Science and Culture’ and later simply ‘Science’, was designed by architect B. P. Zhezherin. The building is a classical example of Soviet neoclassicism (Stalinist empire style) integrated with traditional Ukrainian decorative elements.
Present day
Today, the exhibition complex is known as the National Expocenter of Ukraine (VDNG). Pavilion No. 10 has retained its original architectural appearance, including the sculptures and side towers. It is currently used for temporary exhibitions, cultural, and educational events.
