A Soviet collectible postcard from 1966, depicting the monumental building of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine in Kyiv.
What is shown on the postcard
The photograph captures a close-up view of the side facade of a massive, gray administrative building adorned with tall Corinthian semi-columns. An asphalt driveway with decorative stone bollards is visible in front of the building. In the foreground and along the street, dense green tree crowns partially obscure the lower part of the facade and neighboring structures.
Historical note
The building was constructed between 1936 and 1939, designed by the prominent Soviet architect Sergey Grigoriev. It was originally intended to house the headquarters of the Kyiv Special Military District. Following the Second World War and the reconstruction of the ruined city center, the building became the headquarters of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine (CC CPU).
Present day
In the modern era, the building has retained its administrative status. Since 1991, it housed the Administration of the President of Ukraine, which was reorganized into the Office of the President of Ukraine in 2019.
