The 1958 postcard depicts the 9th building of the Voskhod Sanatorium in Feodosia, now known as Dacha Stamboli. This historic building is a prominent example of Moorish architecture on the Crimean coast.
What is shown on the postcard
In the foreground of the postcard, a low stone wall and a green, overgrown slope are visible, behind which the main volume of the building rises. The architectural complex is characterized by several domes of varying sizes and a minaret-like tower with a crenellated top. The facades are rendered in light tones, with decorative elements resembling oriental ornaments and battlements. Trees and shrubs grow around the building, partially obscuring its lower part.
Historical note
Dacha Stamboli was constructed between 1909 and 1914 for the tobacco manufacturer Iosif Stamboli, designed by architect Oskar Wegener. The building, executed in Neo-Moorish style, became one of Feodosia’s architectural gems. Following the October Revolution of 1917, the dacha was nationalized. During the Soviet period, starting in 1921, it housed various sanatorium and resort institutions. From the 1950s until the early 2000s, the building functioned as the 9th building of the Voskhod Sanatorium, specializing in treating gastrointestinal diseases.
Present day
Currently, Dacha Stamboli has been restored and operates as a museum and restaurant complex. The building retains its historical appearance and is one of Feodosia’s main attractions, drawing visitors with its unique architecture and rich history. It is open for excursions and cultural events.
