What is shown on the postcard

The postcard captures an elevated view of the Street of the Heroes of the Great Patriotic War in Luhansk in 1968. Historical note

The street and the adjacent Square of the Heroes of the Great Patriotic War began to actively take shape in the post-war years as a new administrative and public center of the city of Luhansk (known as Voroshilovgrad from 1970 to 1990). The construction of monumental buildings was carried out in the 1950s and 1960s as part of the master plan for city development, designed to showcase its status as a major industrial hub of the Donbas region.

Present day

In the modern period, the layout of this central part of the city has retained its structure, including the boulevard area and key buildings of the Soviet era. The square and the adjacent street remain an important transport and public node of the city, having undergone only minor changes in the design of commercial storefronts and ground-floor facades.
