A two-sided Soviet postcard from 1977 depicting the territory of a pioneer camp in the city of Kamianske (then Dniprodzerzhynsk), Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.

What is shown on the postcard

The left side of the postcard shows a shaded alley captioned “Flower Street”, lined with tall poplars and featuring a flowerbed in the foreground. The right side shows a formal pioneer assembly on a plaza in front of a circular fountain with a central sculpture. In the background, a large portrait of Vladimir Lenin on a red banner, a flagpole, and trees are visible.

Historical note

During the Soviet era, large industrial enterprises of Dniprodzerzhynsk (such as the Dnieper Metallurgical Plant named after Dzerzhinsky) maintained their own infrastructure for children’s recreation. Pioneer camps were constructed in suburban recreational zones. Assemblies and formal gatherings near the fountain were an obligatory part of the camp’s daily routine and seasonal shifts.

Present day

Following the dissolution of the Soviet Union, most former enterprise-owned pioneer camps changed ownership, were abandoned, or were repurposed into private recreation centers and modern children’s health resorts. The exact location of this camp and the current state of the depicted objects remain unidentified.
