Historical note
The university building was originally constructed between 1877 and 1881, designed by architect Juliusz Hochberger for the Galician Sejm (parliament). Lviv University relocated to this building in 1920. The monument to Ivan Franko in front of the main building was officially unveiled on October 30, 1964, created by sculptors V. Borysenko, D. Krvavych, E. Mysko, V. Odrekhivskyi, Y. Chaika, and architect A. Shuliar.
Present day
Today, the building serves as the main building of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv. The architectural appearance of the edifice and the monument have been fully preserved in their historical state and are designated cultural heritage sites of national importance. The square in front of the university is part of the oldest city park in Ukraine.
