What is shown on the postcard

The image shows the three-story monumental building of the theatre in the Stalinist Empire style, featuring a massive eight-column Corinthian portico and a triangular pediment decorated with a bas-relief. In front of the theatre is an asphalted square with pedestrians, a passing two-tone bus, and a parked passenger car. Young trees, lawns, pedestrian paths, and a streetlight are visible on the left.

Historical note

The construction of the new theatre building on Teatralna Square in Poltava took place in the post-war years and was completed with its opening in 1958. The project architects were A. Krylova and O. Malyshenko. The building became the main cultural center of the city, housing an auditorium with hundreds of seats.

Present day

Today, the building has preserved its original architectural appearance and status as a local architectural monument. The theatre continues to operate as the Poltava Academic Regional Ukrainian Music and Drama Theatre named after M. V. Gogol, remaining a key venue for the city’s cultural life.
