Historical note
The modern building of the Dnipropetrovsk State Opera and Ballet Theatre was designed in the late 1960s and constructed between 1974 and 1976. Its grand opening took place in 1977. The architects were V. Zubkov, V. Bogin, and L. Shimok. The ‘Mermaid’ fountain in front of the theatre was created by sculptor Yuri Pavlyuchenko and installed in 1983, the year this postcard was issued.
Present day
Currently, the institution is known as the Dnipro Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre. The building continues to function as the city’s main opera and ballet stage, retaining its original architectural appearance.
