What is shown on the postcard

Historical note

Oktyabrskaya Street (historically Uspenskaya, later Aleksandrovskaya, now Sobornosti) is the central radial thoroughfare of Poltava. Following severe destruction during World War II, the street was systematically rebuilt in the 1950s and 1960s in the Soviet neoclassical style, featuring new residential blocks for the city’s population.

Present day

Today, Sobornosti Street serves as a pedestrian zone and the main public space of Poltava. While the mid-20th-century residential architecture remains largely intact, the ground-floor facades have been modernized to accommodate contemporary retail stores, cafes, and offices.
