Card Odessa. The main building of the sanatorium “Moldova”. (1973)

A 1973 Soviet postcard depicting the main building of the “Moldova” Sanatorium in Odesa.

What is shown on the postcard

The image shows the elongated multi-story main building of the “Moldova” sanatorium, designed in the Soviet Neoclassical style. The structure features a symmetrical composition with prominent side towers topped by spires. In front of the facade, a grand staircase leads down to decorative flower beds and terraces. In the foreground, an asphalt road, a passenger car, a decorative fence, and a security booth are visible.

Historical note

The “Moldova” Sanatorium was established in the Arkadiya resort district of Odesa. The main residential building was constructed in the late 1950s. The health resort was intended for the recreation and medical treatment of citizens from the Moldavian SSR and other Soviet regions. The architecture combines elements of Stalinist Empire style and classical orders.

Present day

In the post-Soviet period, ownership of the sanatorium transferred to the Republic of Moldova, leading to subsequent property disputes and legal battles. Currently, the buildings are not operational for their original purpose, the territory is partially abandoned, and the future of the architectural complex remains uncertain.
