What is shown on the postcard
The postcard features three distinct images. Historical note
The construction of the experimental Teremky-1 residential area began in the late 1970s. Its signature landmark is the massive semi-circular building on Akademika Zabolotnoho Street, designed to shield the microdistrict from heavy winds. The Kyiv Opera House, built in 1901 according to the design of architect Victor Schroeter to replace the burned-down City Theatre, remained the primary musical stage of the republic in 1980. The State Bandurist Capella of the Ukrainian SSR, founded in 1918, preserved and popularized the unique Ukrainian collective kobzar performing tradition.
Present day
Today, the Teremky-1 residential area is fully integrated into Kyiv’s urban fabric, served by the nearby Teremky metro station. Since 1992, the opera house has been known as the National Opera of Ukraine named after T.G. Shevchenko, following a major renovation in the late 1980s. The National Honored Bandurist Capella of Ukraine named after H. Maiboroda continues its active performing career.
