What is shown on the postcard
The postcard shows the main facade of a monumental three-story Neo-Renaissance building. In the foreground, there is an asphalt road with a rounded curb, a walking pedestrian, and a parked GAZ-21 Volga car on the left. On the right side of the composition, a large deciduous tree partially obscures the right wing of the building.
Historical note
The building was constructed between 1898 and 1904 for the Municipal Industrial Museum (Museum of Artistic Crafts) according to the design of architect Józef Kajetan Janowski. During the Soviet period, starting in 1950, it housed the Lviv branch of the Central V.I. Lenin Museum, which served as one of the city’s primary ideological venues.
Present day
Today, this building houses the Andrey Sheptytsky National Museum in Lviv, one of Ukraine’s largest museums, which holds a rich collection of Ukrainian sacred art from the 12th to 18th centuries. The building is designated as an architectural monument of local significance.
