Historical note
The monument was created by the renowned sculptor Leonid Pozen in 1913 as a gift to the city. Due to bureaucratic hurdles in the Russian Empire, World War I, and the subsequent revolution, the installation of the monument was delayed for over two decades. The official unveiling at its current location finally took place in 1934.
Present day
Today, the monument to Nikolai Gogol remains at its historical location in the center of Poltava in the square of the same name. The site holds the status of a monument of monumental art and is one of the key landmarks of the city.
