Historical note

The monument to Ivan Fedorov in Lviv was unveiled in 1977 on Pidvalna Street. In the same year, the Ivan Fedorov Museum (a branch of the Lviv Art Gallery) opened in the former St. Onuphrius Monastery, where the printer was buried in 1583. The museum exhibited early printed books and materials on the history of printing.

Present day

The monument on Pidvalna Street remains in its historic location and serves as a well-known outdoor secondhand book market. In 1990, the St. Onuphrius monastic complex was returned to the Basilian Order, and the museum’s collection was subsequently moved to the Museum of Ancient Ukrainian Book Art on Kopernyka Street.
