What is shown on the postcard

Historical note

The monument to Taras Shevchenko in Kyiv was unveiled on March 6, 1939, in the park of the same name opposite the Red Building of Kyiv State University, commemorating the 125th anniversary of the poet’s birth. The sculptor was Matvey Manizer, and the architect was Evgeny Levinson. Previously, the monument to Russian Emperor Nicholas I stood on this site until its dismantling in 1920.

Present day

Today, the monument and the surrounding Shevchenko Park remain key cultural and historical landmarks of Kyiv. The sculpture is well-preserved, and the park serves as a popular leisure spot for citizens and a venue for official events commemorating the poet.
