Historical note
The monument on Taras Shevchenko’s grave in Kaniv was unveiled on June 18, 1939, marking the 125th anniversary of the poet’s birth. The monument was created by sculptor Matvey Manizer and architect Yevgeny Levinson. It replaced an earlier cast-iron bust erected in 1923.
Present day
Today, the monument and its surrounding territory are part of the Shevchenko National Preserve. The site holds the status of a cultural heritage monument of national significance and remains a major destination for cultural tourism.
