Historical note
The monument was erected in 1965 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the uprising on the battleship Potemkin. It was placed on the square named Potemkin Square during the Soviet era (now Katerynynska Square). The sculptural composition symbolizes the moment the uprising began on the ship.
Present day
In 2007, during the restoration of the square, the monument was dismantled and relocated to Mytna (Customs) Square near the entrance to the Port of Odesa. The Monument to the Founders of Odessa was restored on its original site.
