Historical note
The memorial complex in Novi Petrivtsi was established to commemorate the Soviet forces’ victory in the Battle of the Dnieper and the liberation of Kyiv in the autumn of 1943. The decisive main offensive against Nazi forces was launched precisely from this site, the Lutezh bridgehead. The Monument-Museum was officially opened in 1958. The cylindrical base of the building resembles a defensive bunker, while the soldier sculpture on top represents the triumph of victory.
Present day
Today, the complex holds the status of the National Museum-Preserve ‘Battle for Kyiv in 1943’. Its vast territory preserves a network of original trenches, bunkers, and command posts, alongside an extensive outdoor exhibition of military hardware. The monument-museum building continues to serve as the main architectural landmark of the memorial park.
