What is shown on the postcard

The postcard shows a bronze equestrian monument on a massive granite pedestal. In the background, historic buildings along Taras Shevchenko Boulevard and chestnut branches are visible. A green lawn with a flowerbed surrounds the base, with a pedestrian passing by.

Historical note

The monument was unveiled on April 29, 1954, to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the Pereyaslav Treaty. It was designed by sculptors M. Lysenko, M. Sukhodolov, and V. Borodai, alongside architects A. Vlasov and A. Zavarov. Prior to 1919, the monument to Alexey Bobrinsky stood on this site.

Present day

Following decommunization laws, the monument was dismantled on December 9, 2023. The sculpture was carefully removed from its pedestal and relocated to the State Aviation Museum of Ukraine for storage.
