A 1983 postcard showing the perspective of Lenin Street (now Soborna Street) in Kremenchuk, Poltava Oblast, Ukraine.

What is shown on the postcard

The image captures an elevated view of the street. In the foreground, two symmetrical multi-story residential buildings of the Stalinist era with decorative gables, balustrades, and bay windows flank the entrance to the street. Public transport (LiAZ buses) and passenger cars move along the roadway. Dense green trees are planted along the sidewalks.

Historical note

Lenin Street (pre-revolutionary Katerynynska, now Soborna) is one of the central thoroughfares of Kremenchuk. During World War II, the city was almost completely destroyed (up to 97% of buildings). Reconstruction of the central part took place in the 1950s. The symmetrical buildings in the foreground were constructed in the Soviet Neoclassical style, forming a grand ensemble at the entrance to the street from Peremohy (Victory) Square.

Present day

In the modern period, the street was renamed Soborna Street. The architectural appearance of the 1950s residential buildings has been generally preserved, though the ground floors have been converted for commercial use, shops, and cafes. The trees have grown significantly, and traffic volume has increased.
