What is shown on the postcard
The photograph features a multi-story light-brick educational building with an observatory dome visible on its roof. Near the entrance, there is a sign with a slogan in Ukrainian, a paved square with benches in front of the building, and a bust of A.S. Pushkin on the right. In the foreground, a motion-blurred red passenger car is captured passing by.
Historical note
The Kirovohrad Pedagogical Institute was established in 1930 as an institute of social education. It was named after A.S. Pushkin in 1949. The building with the astronomical dome shown on the postcard was constructed in the second half of the 20th century to accommodate the growing student population of the expanding institution.
Present day
During Ukraine’s independence, the institution achieved university status and was renamed in honor of the writer and political figure Volodymyr Vynnychenko. Since 2022, it operates as the Volodymyr Vynnychenko Central Ukrainian State University. The architectural complex remains in active use for educational purposes.
