What is shown on the postcard

The postcard features a red granite four-sided obelisk with two bronze soldier figures at its base. The figure on the left represents a Civil War soldier in a long overcoat and a budenovka hat, while the right figure depicts a World War II Soviet soldier wearing a helmet. The concrete pedestal displays the years ‘1918–1921’ and ‘1941–1945’, along with a memorial inscription. Passersby are visible on the concrete-paved square in front of the monument.

Historical note

The memorial complex on the ramparts of the former 18th-century Fortress of Saint Elizabeth was established in the post-WWII era. The Obelisk of Glory was unveiled in the late 1960s as the central monument of the memorial park, honoring fallen soldiers. This site is highly significant as the historical birthplace of the city.

Present day

Today, the Fortecni Vali memorial complex remains the primary site for honoring fallen soldiers in Kropyvnytskyi. In accordance with decommunization laws, some Soviet inscriptions and symbols have been modified or removed, while the monument itself and the surrounding graves are maintained as historical heritage.
