A collectible postcard from 1984 featuring the terminal building of the airport in Kirovohrad (now Kropyvnytskyi, Ukraine).

What is shown on the postcard

The foreground shows a lawn with a round flowerbed of pink flowers, decorative vertical pillars, and flagpoles. In the background stands a two-story rectangular Soviet modernist terminal building with a glazed facade. The large Cyrillic sign “аэропорт” (airport) is mounted on the roof. Parked cars and a minibus are visible on the right.

Historical note

The airport in Kirovohrad began operating in the first half of the 20th century. During the post-war years, it provided regular flights to Kyiv, Odesa, and other Soviet cities, and was also used for air ambulance and agricultural purposes. The modernist terminal building shown in the image was constructed in the 1970s as part of the regional center’s transport infrastructure modernization.

Present day

Currently, Kropyvnytskyi Airport does not operate as a regular passenger hub, and commercial flights are absent. It serves as a training base for the State Flight Academy of Ukraine (a branch of NAU), which uses its runways for pilot instruction. The architectural appearance of the terminal building has been partially altered during subsequent renovations.
