Historical note
Constructed in 1811 based on designs by architect Adrian Zakharov, this building originally served as the provincial government office. During World War II, the architectural monument was burned down by occupying forces. Between 1948 and 1952, it was fully reconstructed, preserving its original neoclassical style, and became the House of Soviets.
Present day
Today, the building houses the Poltava City Council (Executive Committee). It is recognized as a historic monument and remains a vital part of the unique classicist round plaza layout in the city center.
