Historical note
The Museum of the Brest Fortress Defense was opened on November 8, 1956, in the surviving 19th-century defensive barracks of the Citadel. In 1971, the museum became part of the larger ‘Brest Hero-Fortress’ memorial complex. The artistic night lighting of the memorial was designed for the grand opening of the complex in September 1971.
Present day
Today, the Defense Museum continues to operate as a central component of the memorial complex. The architectural structure of the building and the surrounding ruins have been preserved, and the exhibition is regularly updated to welcome thousands of visitors annually.
