Historical note
The indoor market in Cherkasy was completed in 1971. The design of this unique circular building with a cable-suspended roof was developed by a team of architects at the Kiev Regional Research and Design Institute of Experimental Design (KievZNIIEP), led by the prominent Ukrainian architect Natalia Chmutina. The column-free interior structure spanning over 50 meters in diameter provided an expansive, uninterrupted trading hall, representing an advanced engineering feat of the era.
Present day
Today, the building continues to serve its original purpose as the Central Market of Cherkasy. While the structure has generally retained its iconic modernist shape, the exterior has undergone minor alterations due to modern signage, advertisements, and refurbished entrance group. The surrounding area remains a bustling commercial hub of the city.
