This 1982 collectible postcard showcases a panoramic view of the newly developed residential districts in the resort town of Truskavets, Lviv Oblast, Ukrainian SSR.

What is shown on the postcard

The image captures a wide asphalted street sloping downhill. On the left side stand multi-story residential apartment buildings: a nine-story panel-and-brick building featuring distinct balconies and a shop sign on the ground floor, followed by a five-story residential block further down. In the foreground, young deciduous trees, green lawns, and several pedestrians are visible, while other elements of the Soviet-era microdistrict can be seen in the background.

Historical note

During the 1970s and 1980s, Truskavets experienced rapid growth not only as a major health resort but also as a town with an expanding permanent population. To house the medical staff, resort personnel, and construction workers, extensive residential development was undertaken. The primary area for urban expansion was along today’s Stebnytska Street, where modern microdistricts complete with shops, schools, and infrastructure were established.

Present day

Today, these quarters form the core residential stock of Truskavets’ suburbs. The Soviet-era standard panel and brick buildings remain, with many undergoing partial energy-efficiency retrofits. The ground floors continue to house commercial establishments, pharmacies, and stores serving both local residents and resort visitors.
