A two-part Soviet postcard from 1977 depicting the city beach and a kayaking group in Dniprodzerzhynsk (now Kamianske).
What is shown on the postcard
The left panel shows a panoramic view of the sandy city beach on the Dnipro River with numerous sunbathers, trees, and light poles in the background. The right panel displays a group of young kayakers arranged in a fan shape near a wooden pier under the supervision of an instructor.
Historical note
In the 1970s, Dniprodzerzhynsk, a major center for metallurgy and chemical industry, also developed its recreational areas. The right-bank city beach on the Dnipro River served as the primary summer destination for residents. Water sports, particularly kayaking and canoeing, were highly popular and supported by local factories and sports clubs.
Present day
Today, the right-bank recreation zone continues to serve as the city beach of Kamianske. While the area undergoes seasonal maintenance, much of the Soviet-era wooden infrastructure and piers has been replaced or dismantled.
