Historical note
The Metro Bridge was opened on November 5, 1965, along with the launch of the third stage of the Sviatoshynsko-Brovarska line of the Kyiv Metro. It is the world’s first arched structure made of prestressed reinforced concrete with dry joints. The project was designed by the prominent engineer Heorhiy Fuks. The bridge replaced the Chain Bridge named after Evgeniya Bosch, which was destroyed during World War II and had been located almost in the same spot.
Present day
Today, the Metro Bridge remains a crucial transport artery of Kyiv, facilitating the daily movement of the “red” metro line trains and road traffic. Over time, the bridge’s structure has required major repairs and reinforcement, with planning and reconstruction works being initiated in recent years. The panoramic view from the Dnieper hills remains one of the iconic symbols of Ukraine’s capital.
