What is shown on the postcard
The postcard features an angular view of a monumental Neo-Renaissance building with Baroque influences. The inscription ‘МУЗЕЙ В. І. ЛЕНІНА’ is clearly visible on the frieze. Two pedestrians stand near the main entrance, a ‘No Entry’ traffic sign is installed, and a green flowerbed is visible on the left.
Historical note
The building was constructed between 1898 and 1904, designed by architect Józef Kajetan Janowski, originally serving as the City Industrial Museum. In 1950, the Lviv branch of the Central V.I. Lenin Museum was opened here, operating until April 1990.
Present day
Today, the building at 20 Svobody Avenue houses the main building of the Andrey Sheptytsky National Museum in Lviv. The museum holds one of the richest collections of Ukrainian sacred art.
