What is shown on the postcard

Historical note
The Odesa Archaeological Museum is one of the oldest in Ukraine, founded in 1825. The building shown on the postcard was constructed in 1883 according to the design of the prominent architect Felix Gonsiorovsky specifically to house the city library and museum collections. The museum’s archives contain unique artifacts from the history of the Northern Black Sea coast, Ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome.
Present day
Today, the building fully retains its historical appearance and original purpose, operating as the Odesa Archaeological Museum of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The main modification to the surrounding landscape is the installation of the famous sculptural group “Laocoön and His Sons” (a copy of the antique original) in front of the building, which is not yet present on this 1968 postcard.
