Old postcards Camomile
For now the Chamomile section holds a single card, Chamomiles, printed in 1984. The caption does not name a species, and that matters, because the Russian word romashka covers several different plants.
Botanically, romashka is the genus Matricaria in the daisy family; its best-known species is Matricaria chamomilla, known as a medicinal plant since antiquity and in English simply as chamomile. In everyday Russian, though, the name is also given to daisy-like flowers of other genera, such as the ox-eye daisy and garden chrysanthemums. What they share is the flower head: a ring of white or coloured ray florets around a darker centre, so that a cluster of tiny florets looks like one flower.
So the caption alone cannot tell us which daisies the 1984 card shows. Anyone hunting for vintage postcards with daisies may also want to browse the neighbouring flower sections.
